Over the last few years, a strong focus on positive mental health has become more important than ever. Ensuring you are taking care of yourself, physically as well as mentally will help you thrive in your life! Here are a few areas to focus on as you’re setting out on increasing the positivity in your mental well-being.
MOVE YOUR BODY
Whether it’s going for a walk, stretching with some yoga or getting into the gym with your trainer; the goal is to move your body. Choose movement that you enjoy! One tool I find extremely helpful is to schedule your movement time in the calendar, respecting it like any other appointment!
TAKE A TIME OUT IN NATURE
Studies have also shown that being in nature can lower stress levels. Being outside in the sun can also boost your mood since you’ll be getting a natural dose of Vitamin D. Studies have also linked spending time in nature to improving short-term memory, reducing inflammation, restored mental energy, and improved concentration.
PLAN THINGS YOU CAN LOOK FORWARD TO
Planning something that makes you happy boosts your levels of overall happiness and can have long-term benefits. This is especially useful if you are going through a stressful time at work or at home, as creating that break from your daily flow can also allow you to take a mental break that will help you boost and improve your productivity and a general happiness. A vacation, a special girl’s night, or a relaxing spa day are some great ideas to get you started.
PUT THAT PEN TO PAPER
Take the time to write down your goals, ambitions and what you are grateful for each day. The magic really happens when you take the time to not only write out, but review each of these 3 things. Recognizing what you are grateful for each day, even the small things, will bring you contentment and keep you looking for the next magical piece of gratitude.
TAKE BREAKS FROM TECHNOLOGY
Social media can do more harm than good, causing us to constantly compare ourselves with others. Make it a point to take a break from technology by creating boundaries to put your phone away after a certain time each day or having a “phone-free” day once a week. Taking a break from technology also gives our brain a break from being constantly stimulated by information or images that can overwhelm our thought processes.
