Though you don’t have to wait until January 1st to get started on some new healthy habits, the new year is a great time to evaluate what you truly want for your life, and how you’re going to achieve it. Take the opportunity to kickstart 2023 now with these 5 focuses!

 

EMBRACE AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

Research shows that gratitude is consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps you to feel more positive emotions, celebrate in the good experiences, improve your health, deal with adversity, and build stronger relationships. Writing down one thing you’re grateful for each day can increase your positive vibes immensely.

 

COMMIT TO MOVING YOUR BODY

You don’t have to jump headfirst into an intense workout regimen to prioritize movement in your day. Start by going for a walk, taking a yoga class or lifting weights a few times a week. What’s important is finding movement that you connect with and making it a priority in your day.

 

MAKE GREAT SLEEP A PRIORITY

It’s no secret that it’s hard to feel at your best when you’re tired. Deep sleep is fundamental to your overall health, it helps us to think more clearly and contributes to a healthy weight while reducing some potential risks such as heart attack, stroke and chronic diseases. Ensure you power off your electronics at least one hour before bed to get your brain into “quiet mode” pre-bedtime.

 

FUEL YOUR MIND

Continued learning is a great way to keep your cognitive skills sharp while encouraging yourself to explore something that ignites you. Have you always wanted to learn a new language, read a specific book, study an instrument or dig your hands into a creative project such as pottery? Now is the time to take up that challenge! Not only will you have fun while you’re tackling something new, but you’ll also give your brain a workout that benefits you now - and as you age!

Though it can be easy to turn inward when we’re feeling overwhelmed, those who have nourishing relationships with family, friends, and their community are happier, have fewer health problems, and live longer. Great relationships have a positive impact on our levels of stress, immune system and even gut health!
