7 Tips For Staying On Track With Your Fitness Goals During The Holiday Season

So I have some good news and some bad news:

The bad news is that weight gain during the holidays is very common.

The good news is that you don't have to be a part of Team Holiday Bulk.

With a plan and a sense of health awareness going into this holiday season, you'll be fully equipped to have a fun, delicious few months that doesn't throw you off of your health and fitness goals.

Here are 7 tips to help you stay on track with your fitness goals this year.

1. Ditch The "All or Nothing" Mindset

There are so many ways to eat healthy and stay active. So even if eating your usual macro-focused meal or carefully programmed fitness routine aren't options for the day, get creative!

Take a walk with your family. Opt for healthier choices when stacking your plate up for the holiday meal.

You can still make healthy diet and fitness choices, even if you veer a bit (or a lot) off of your usual routine. Plus, it's fun and healthy to mix things up from time to time.

2. Bring A Healthy Meal Or Snack

If you're worried about not having healthy options, you can easily solve that problem by providing the healthy snacks and meals yourself!

I mean, let's be real: most holiday foods are undeniably calorie dense and probably not aligned with your diet goals.

Not only do you now have something you can eat that you'll feel good about, but your loved ones are probably just as excited and relieved as you are!

Spread the holiday cheer and bring a little something healthy to the dinner table.

3. Grab A Small Plate

Here's a quick hack to help you keep control over those portion sizes: use a smaller plate.

Not only will a smaller plate max out of its capacity to hold more food much faster, but it also looks more abundant to the eye.

4. Exercise In The Morning

During the holidays, our routines are usually thrown off and our daily schedules can be totally unpredictable if we're planning on going to spend time with family that day.

Getting your workout in first thing in the morning can help ensure your sweat sesh doesn't get away from you!

Even if you're traveling and don't have access to your usual equipment, try opting for a run or calisthenics workout. 💪

5. Cut The Liquid Calories

You already know what I'm talking about here: the soda, beer, wine, sparkling everything, hard eggnog, hot buttered rum, etc.

These drinks are empty calories that can have the ability to pack in a ton of extra calories and wreck your fitness goals.

Not to mention, people are more likely to overeat and make less healthy choices after consuming alcohol.

6. Indulge For A Night, Not A Month Or Two

There's no reason why you shouldn't enjoy the season and the special traditions that it has to offer.

But don't let a special holiday treat turn into a special entire season habit.

If you're serious about sticking to your health and fitness goals, enjoy holiday treats at family gathering but kindly the decline the leftovers for others to take home.

Your cousins will probably thank you, and so will your waist line.

7. Try To Get Enough Protein& Fiber In Your Meals

Protein and fiber are so important in helping you feel full and satiated after you eat.

If you feel satisfied, you're less likely to get up for seconds (or thirds) or get into the smorgasbord of sugary deserts.

What's Your Holiday Season Plan?

Think about what has tripped you up the most during the previous holiday seasons and make a plan to avoid that trap right now and live your most successful holiday life!

You got this. 💪
